Use your official K avatar for your accounts. This helps brand the College and your organization.
Post frequently and be responsive. Be ready to answer users’ questions and monitor comments.
Use an editorial calendar to schedule content creation. Recommended frequency of posts varies by platform. Hootsuite recommends:
On Instagram, post between 3-7 times per week. Stories can be posted more frequently.
On Facebook, post between 1 and 2 times a day (and no more than 2)
On Twitter, post between 1 and 2 Tweets a day (no more than 5).
On LinkedIn, post at least 1 time per day
These are just guidelines—ultimately, the quality of content matters more than frequency when engaging users.
Use analytics to help you understand how your account is performing and which kinds of posts get the most engagement. If you need help with analytics, contact News and Social Media Director Andy Brown at andrew.brown@kzoo.edu or 269.337.5724 for assistance.
Cross-promote. Share content from other K official accounts, link to K’s website or to K news stories where appropriate. Only share publicly available information about K.
Be visually interesting, as well as accessible. Use visually appealing layouts and images. Remember to delete pasted links in status updates. Check to see that your image has alt text. If you use an image that has important information written in it that a user needs to understand the post (event dates, times, etc.), be sure to include that same information in the status/caption so a screen reader can read it.
